Ali Pasandideh is a Dubai-based contemporary calligrapher with over 26 years of professional experience, renowned for transforming the profound depth of Persian poetry into a visual “Alchemy of Words.”
The journey began with a compelling paradox. As a top-tier student at the age of 12, Ali’s teachers often critiqued his handwriting—a result of the hurried pace of his thoughts. This early challenge sparked a lifelong pursuit of aesthetic perfection. After years of self-taught practice, he joined the Iran Calligraphers Association in Mashhad at 21, where his formal and rigorous training truly began.
What started as a quiet passion evolved into a distinguished career. Initially captivated by the beauty of the written word, Ali soon began to explore the soul of the poetry he transcribed. Today, his work seeks to capture the very essence and emotion of a poem, turning it into a visual narrative that resonates with the viewer’s gaze.
“Calligraphy is poetry for the eyes, a melody to be seen, a music that caresses the gaze.”
— Ali Pasandideh
With a career spanning more than two decades, Ali has bridged the gap between ancient heritage and contemporary expression.
His artistic journey is marked by 18 solo exhibitions in prestigious galleries across Switzerland, Turkey, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran. His technical mastery was recognized early on when he earned First Place in Calligraphy (Nastaliq) in 2005, a testament to his skill in the most complex form of this traditional art. Furthermore, his works have been featured and successfully sold in National Auctions, earning a place in the collections of elite art connoisseurs.
Beyond his creative practice, Ali is a dedicated educator and leader. With over 17 years of expertise, including 12 years as a certified instructor at the Iran Calligraphers Association, he has shared the secrets of this sacred art with generations. His leadership roles, including serving as the Head of the Iran Calligraphers Association (Sarakhs Branch), reflect his deep commitment to the artistic community.
In early 2023, Ali was granted the UAE Golden Visa for his excellence in Art and Culture. Since establishing his studio in Dubai, he has collaborated with global landmarks and brands such as Etihad Airways, and has been a featured artist at the Khawla Art & Cultural Foundation, the Kutubna Cultural Center, and the RAK Art Festival.
Today, Ali remains committed to an authentic and independent path. His philosophy is rooted in sincerity; his work is a raw reflection of his own thoughts, beliefs, and lived experiences—a universal language of beauty that continues to evolve in his Dubai studio.
